SECOND CAMPAIGN TO PRESERVE OLD SANA'A INAUGURATED



SANA'A, Jan.24 (Saba) -The Shura Council's Speaker Abdul-Aziz
Abdul-Ghani inaugurated on Sunday the Second National Campaign to
preserve the Old City of Sana'a, organized for two days by Yemen
Foundation for Culture and Heritage.

In the campaign inauguration, Abdul-Ghani affirmed, in a symposium
on this topic, the importance of launching this initiative,
recalling the signs that had been represented by the first campaign
to preserve the Old city of Sana'a before 25 years, which coincided
with another campaign to conserve the city of Shibam Hadramout.

"As we meet today to express the urgent need to launch a new appeal,
to a second campaign to preserve the Old Sana'a, for objective
reasons imposing this appeal, we must pay attention to the other
historic cities, which collapsed by the same circumstances..,
especially those were inserted in the World Heritage List", he said
considering that a national priority and an important goal of future
development plans.

Abdul-Ghani noted to the infrastructure and rehabilitation projects
achieved in the first campaign in the city, stressing the importance
of paying attention to the problems that remain even today, for
which this campaign is launched.

He noted to the recommendations contained in the symposium papers,
considering those papers an important basis for the start of the
second campaign to preserve the Old City of Sana'a.

Meanwhile, he urged to focusing on the social partnership to enforce
the upcoming campaign, because the interaction of the local
community, will save a lot of effort, time and money, and will
contribute strongly to the success of conservation schemes.

In this respect, Abdul-Ghani suggested the possibility of tourist
employment of the Old Sana'a, as this would ensure attraction
factors for the city people and motivate them to cooperate with the
conservation efforts.
