Yemen, Malaysia discuss cooperation in energy field
SANA'A, Jan.24 (Saba) - Minister
of Electricity Awadh al-Socotri met here on Sunday with a Malaysian delegation,
including
companies in energy field.
The two sides discussed the possibility of taking advantage of the Malaysian
experiences in areas of distribution networks, planning, installations,
specifications development,
maintenance, power generation and trade exchanging in the technical field.
During the meeting, al-Socotri valued the Malaysian companies' keenness on
developing cooperation relations with the ministry and exchanging experiences and
training the
Yemeni cadres in the electric power field.
He pointed to the ministry's orientation to involve the local and foreign private
sector in most of the electricity and energy projects in Yemen, particularly in the
generation
field, welcoming Malaysian companies to enter the field of competition and
investment in Yemen.
For its part, the Malaysian side voiced its readiness to offer three training
scholarships to train the Yemeni cadres in the power generation field and to
cooperate with
Yemen in the other fields that serve this sector.
In related context, talks were held here between the leadership of the Public
Electricity Corporation (PEC) and the Malaysian delegation.
The talks reviewed the cooperation areas between the PEC and its Malaysian
counterpart in several fields, as well as the Malaysian experience in solving the
electric network
problems.
The Malaysian delegation would conduct several activities during its three-day
visit, including an exhibition of Malaysian electrical products, a symposium on
Malaysian
products and visiting a number of power generating stations in the capital Sana'a,
deputy director of the PEC Harith al-Amri told Saba.
He added that the Malaysian delegation's visit would be concluded with singing a
memo of understanding including the different cooperation aspects between the two
sides.
