NEW DELHI, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said Monday
his ongoing India trip highlights Seoul's push to improve ties with Asian
countries under his so-called "New Asia Diplomacy" campaign.
In his biweekly radio address, Lee pointed out that it is his first overseas trip
this year about a month after visiting the United Arab Emirates, the last of his
trips abroad in 2009.

Seoul proposes talks with N. Korea over suspended tour programs
SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Monday proposed holding talks with
North Korea early next month to discuss ways to resume suspended tourism programs
to the communist nation's Mount Kumgang and Kaesong city, an official at Seoul's
unification ministry said.
"The government proposed holding working-level talks on Mount Kumgang and Kaesong
tourism programs on Feb. 8 in a message signed by the unification minister to Kim
Yang-gon, director of the Central Committee of North Korea's Workers' Party," the
ministry told reporters.

S. Korea completes upgrade on research reactor
DAEJEON, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has effectively completed work to
upgrade its 30 megawatt nuclear reactor into one of the most versatile and
capable reactors in the world, a state-run atomic energy institute said Monday.
The Daejeon-based Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), located 160
kilometers south of Seoul, said its High-flux Advanced Neutron Application
Reactor (HANARO) unit has been transformed to produce "cold neutrons" and
incorporate a fuel test loop (FTL) system.

(LEAD) Doosan Heavy wins 1.2 tln won order from India
SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., South
Korea's biggest power-equipment maker, said Monday it has received a 1.2 trillion
won (US$1.1 billion) order from India.
Under the deal with GMR Energy Ltd., Doosan Heavy will build a coal power plant
in Raipur, India.

Gov't plans to build nationwide 'smart grid' by 2030
SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- The government has come up with a final plan to
establish a nationwide "smart grid" as part of its effort to cut back on energy
imports and make better use of eco-friendly resources, government officials said
Monday.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy said the plan is expected to cost the country
27.5 trillion won (US$23.9 billion) and calls for the expansion of low-carbon
infrastructure, starting in major cities.

SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea was seeking to hold a summit of the Group
of 20 advanced and emerging economies on Nov. 15, right after a summit of the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Japan, government officials
said Monday.
Given the busy schedules of the leaders and officials of the G-20 countries, it
would be timely to hold the summit on Nov. 15, according to them. The APEC summit
is to be held in Yokohama from Nov. 13-14.
