SUPREME COUNCIL TO PRESERVE OLD SANA'A RECOMMENDED



SANA'A, Jan.25 (Saba) – The participants in a symposium concluded on
Monday on the conservation of the Old City of Sana'a recommended
reforming a supreme council to preserve the city.

In the two-day symposium organized by Yemen Foundation for Culture
and Heritage, the participants also called for activating the
council's role and functions and involving the concerned authorities
in its different activities, so as to contribute to support all art,
administrative and service activities and the city maintenance.

Meanwhile, they urged to support the General Organization for the
Preservation of Historic Cities to enable it to present its services
and to provide the financial support to the investment projects and
the operational expanses for the organization's branch.

On another hand, the participants affirmed the importance of
training the organization's cadres or assigning specialized
technical cadres, who are able to deal with the heritage issues more
positively, and providing allocations for them.

The participants affirmed on the need to regulate the economic and
social growth and the cultural functions of the buildings of the
city through investing a large possible number of these buildings as
museums and exhibitions.

They stressed the necessity of following up the recommendations of
the symposium and holding in international conference to be
organized by Yemen Foundation for Culture and Heritage in
coordination with the concerned authorities.

Moreover, they indicated that the foundation should adopt holding
similar symposiums and workshops on the other important historical
cities like Zabid, Socotra, and Shibam Hadramout.
