SK Energy's 2009 profit drops 22.3 pct on lower refining margins


SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) -- SK Energy Co., South Korea's top oil refiner, said
Tuesday its net profit for last year slipped 22.3 percent from a year ago due to
decreased refining margins in the petrochemical sector.

SK Energy earned 690.4 billion won (US$603.8 million) in 2009, compared with a
net profit of 888.1 billion won in 2008, the company said in a statement.
Operating profit plunged 52.3 percent last year to 901.4 billion won. Sales
declined 21.7 percent to 35.8 trillion won.
In a separate regulatory filing on the same day, SK Energy said it aims to post
an operating profit of 1.2 trillion won this year on sales totaling 41 trillion
won.
