Ozawa unlikely to undergo 2nd round of questioning over funds

TOKYO, Jan. 27 Kyodo -
Prosecutors have apparently decided to forgo conducting a second round of
questioning of ruling Democratic Party of Japan Secretary General Ichiro Ozawa
over an alleged false political fund report related to a land purchase in 2004
by his fund management body, sources close to the case said Wednesday.
After undergoing questioning by the prosecutors for four and a half hours
Saturday, Ozawa flatly denied receiving illegal corporate donations or having
knowledge about an alleged false fund report related to the 2004 land purchase,
for which three of his aides have been arrested.
The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office questioned Ozawa as a suspect and
took two depositions.
The prosecutors arrested two former secretaries and a current aide to Ozawa
earlier this month.
The fund management body, called Rikuzankai, allegedly failed to report 400
million yen in income and roughly 352 million yen in expenses relating to the
purchase of land in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward in its political fund report for
2004.
The prosecutors reportedly suspect the money used for the land purchase
included illegal donations from a construction company.
