Korean cultural center opens in Poland
SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) -- The Korean Cultural Center has opened in Poland as
South Korea's first such establishment in Eastern Europe dedicated to promoting
exchanges of culture and arts with the region, the culture ministry said
Wednesday.
The center in downtown Warsaw opened to the public with a ceremony attended by Yu
In-chon, South Korean minister of culture, sports and tourism. From Poland, Adam
Giersz, the minister of sport and tourism, Piotr Zuchowski, vice minister of
culture and national heritage, and scores of artists and other dignitaries
attended, the South Korean ministry said in a statement.
The cultural center, equipped with a multi-purpose stage, a library and a film
screening hall, among other facilities, is the first Korean house to open in
Eastern Europe and the fifth in Europe.
"There have recently been increasing calls for more cultural exchange with
countries in the region on the grounds of its continued economic growth," the
ministry said, calling Poland "the cultural and economic center of Central and
Eastern Europe."
Korean Culture Week is currently underway to mark the center's opening with a
fashion show of Korean traditional clothing, called hanbok, and traditional music
performances.
