Nine stranded South Korean tourists rescued in Peru

SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) -- Nine South Korean tourists out of 25 who were stranded
near the Machu Picchu archaeological site in Peru due to heavy rain in the region
were rescued on Wednesday, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The nine Koreans, including women and children, were alirlifted and the remaining
16 Koreans are waiting for rescue.
The spokesman said the remaining tourists are in a safe site and there will not
be any problems in their safety,
The South Korean Embassy in Peru is talking with the Peruvian government for an
early rescue of the remaining tourists, he added.
