Rs 250 cr pulse scam: ED questions Dawood aide
New Delhi, Jan 27 (PTI) The probe into the Rs 250 crore
pulse scam in 2007 has picked up pace with investigators
finding crucial links to a bank in Cook Islands and certain
Mumbai based businessmen.
Official sources said, Naresh Kumar Jain, one of the
kingpins of the pulse scam and allegedly a Dawood Ibrahim aide
who was arrested, has revealed names of certain prominent
Indian rice exporters involved in the scam and certain banking
transaction records.
They said Jain, who has been arrested under the stringent
anti narcotics Act –NDPS – and is also booked under the
Foreign Exchange Money Management Act besides the Prevention
of Money Laundering Act, has been repeatedly questioned by the
Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials regarding the scam.
Sources said the particular Cook Islands bank had issued
Letters of Credit (LCs) to three Indian companies that
exported pulses to Dubai during a ban period.
They said the value of LCs given far exceeded its net
worth, adding the co-owners of the banks are certain Mumbai
based businessmen who are being investigated for alleged
laundering of money for many others.
Incidentally, Jain's brother, who headed one of the three
firms 'Jetking International' was arrested by the Central
Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2007 for being involved in
the scam. PTI SAP
