Seoul stocks open higher on U.S. gains

SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start
Thursday, tracking overnight Wall Street gains, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 3.64 points, or 0.22
percent, to trade at 1,629.12 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. shares gathered ground on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve kept its
target for overnight interest rates unchanged and made upbeat comments on the
economy's recovery.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 0.41 percent and the tech-oriented Nasdaq
climbed 0.80 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,157.95 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 1.95 won from Wednesday's close.
