Seoul stocks open lower on falling U.S. shares

SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Friday,
tracking overnight Wall Street losses, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 28.12 points, or
1.71 percent, to trade at 1,614.05 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks dropped Thursday as the tech sector was hammered by a weak forecast
from Qualcomm and economic jitters increased.
The Dow Jones industrial average slumped 1.13 percent, and the Nasdaq composite
sank 1.91 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,156.50 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 5 won from Thursday's close.
