LG-Nortel to launch network venture in U.S.

SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) -- LG-Nortel Co., a joint venture company created between
the Canadian group Nortel and the South Korean group LG Electronics, said
Thursday that it will launch a network venture in the United States with a
Taiwanese partner to make inroads into North America.

LG-Nortel has made an agreement with the Taiwanese network equipment maker Accton
Group to launch the 60-40 joint venture next month, LG-Nortel said.
LG-Nortel will take charge of overall operation of the joint venture, temporarily
called ECN. Accton will provide human resources, products and distribution
channels, according to LG-Nortel.
Last year, North America's network equipment market was the world's largest, with
an estimated value of US$5.7 billion, or 27 percent of the global demand.
