KEPCO bids for smart-grid pilot project in Australia
By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) -- Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), South Korea's
state-run power company, said Friday that it has submitted a bid for a 100
billion won (US$86.4 million) pilot project to test a smart-grid system over the
next three years in Australia.
KEPCO signed a deal with Ergon Energy, an Australian power company, on Monday to
participate in the project, while it formed a consortium with Samsung C&T Co., a
South Korean construction and trading company, on Jan. 20.
Smart grids refer to an emerging technology that allows real-time monitoring of
electricity output and demand.
The project implemented by the Australian government is aiming to test core
technologies for a smart-grid system for three years from this year before
commercializing the system, KEPCO said.
The result of the bidding is expected out in April.
