Hanjin to operate 2 more berths at port of Kaohsiung

SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) -- Hanjin Shipping Co., South Korea's largest shipper,
will operate two additional terminal facilities at the Taiwanese port of
Kaohsiung starting in May, the company said Friday.

Hanjin Pacific, a terminal business unit of Hanjin Shipping, has agreed to take
over two berths of the Taiwanese port operated by APM Terminals, the world's No.
1 terminal operating company under Denmark-based A.P. Moller-Maersk Group.
Hanjin, which has been operating a berth at the port of Kaohsiung, is expected to
more than triple its annual container handling capacity at the port to 1.5
million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) as the carrier combines the three
facilities into its operations.
The takeover will enable Hanjin's terminal at Kaohsiung to serve container ships
with a capacity of 10,000 TEUs or more, the company said.
The South Korean shipping line currently operates five terminal facilities
domestically and 12 overseas.
