EAGER EYES FOR 2010 BEATING REBELS, BRINGING PRICES DOWN
Translated by: Fadwa Al-Ariki
SANA'A, Jan. 31 (Saba)- Security, stability, lowing prices,
improving the economic conditions, creating job opportunities,
repressing the rebellion in Sa'ada and unifying Arab and Islamic
states, all these are the main wishes of Yemeni citizens for 2010.
The negative impact 2009 has left on Yemeni people made the majority
interviewed by Saba wishing a new year full of new dreams.
Rikan Al-Yateem, a bus driver, looks forward to bringing down the
soaring prices of foodstuff in 2010 and wishes to get married as
getting married to him is a great burden as marriage expenses are
above his ability.
He is unable to pay the marriage expenses for not having another
income source to support his family except working on the bus. Such
circumstances makes Al-Yateem wishes a miracle to happen in 2010 by
getting a governmental job as he has not finished his education
where he stopped joining schools years ago and only reached grade
eight.
Basheer al-Saeedi, a taxi driver, suspended from work for quarreling
with the taxi owner, has also dreams to get another job as a taxi
driver with one of private sectors' companies. All his dreams will
come true if he only gets permanent job and if the prices of goods
are brought down to suit the living standards of citizens.
Success of national dialogue
The writer and journalist Abdul-Razak al-Hotami hopes that 2010 be a
year for freedoms in press and civil rights areas opposing the
current situation. Another big desire lies behind his wish to see a
stable and secure Yemen where all political parties can interact
together. "These conflicted parties have to come to the conviction
that "Yemen's interest comes first" and it can accommodate all
parties and people", he said.
Solving the economic crisis
All what Abdul-Rahman Muthar, a journalist works at state -run
al-Jomoriah newspaper, wishes a success for the national dialog
among all different parties that led Yemen to such circumstances. "I
also hope that the government get rid of the rebellion elements in
Sa'ada province as well as solve the various problems and crisis
affecting Yemen.""After solving all these political problems, Yemen
may be able to find solutions for the mother of its all problems
which is the economic one," he added.
Shadi Ibrahim desires 2010 to be a year of goodness and blessing for
all Yemeni people and a year where Yemen can achieve security and
stability. All Yemeni people build high hopes on the national dialog
and Ibrahim is one of them, where he says," I'm longing that the
national dialog which President Ali Abdullah Saleh called for can
reach the desires and requirements of all Yemeni citizens and all
the political sides to stand side by side in order to get over all
the existed dilemmas."
Fawaz al-Zohair who is an employee looks forward to reforming
Yemen's situations in general which in return will impact positively
on all the citizens of the country.
Eradicating rebellion elements in Sa'ada, stabilizing Yemen 's
situations as well as fighting all forms of corruption are all Rabee
al-Hamdani's wishes in this New Year.
As the previous people said, Basheer Rashed has the same dreams of
his brothers of his own country. He seeks for security and stability
covering all the country's parts. The seditions of Al-Houthi in
Sa'ada, terrorism elements and al-Qaeda should be uprooted, he hoped
so.
Combating Corruption:
From another point of view, Soltuan al-Bukairi who is a trader gives
a brief explanation on the country's economic problems. 2010 should
be a year for combating corruption and corrupters, goods provision
and low their prices in addition to resolving goods monopoly of
traders and exporters.
Talking about his tiny dream with a hope to come true, Farook Aklan
asks officials to order to repair the road linking Taiz province
with the district where he lives, which according to him suffers
from carelessness from the concerned authorities.
Youth's Year
Gahsan al-Ariki, working at Yemeni Center for Historical Studies and
Future Strategies ( Manarat), as many other young people, dreaming
of 2010 peace year. He wants to begin this year with vanishing of
all negative aspects witnessed in the political arena and bringing
together all the conflicted parties and gathered on one thing
"Yemen's interest". "Improving Yemen's economic conditions where we
can find job opportunities after the graduation are taking much
concern in our minds as a youth living in Yemen," he added. "2010 is
a year for youth, we want to find new young people's blood in
leadership and in decision making positions."
While Thabit Mouhsain and Abdullah Mohammed ask only for good health
in 2010, Sadek al-Shaer looks for a year in which foodstuff's prices
get down and young people find job opportunities in.
Towards a different promising year
For his part, Murad Abdul-Wali, university student says: "with the
coming of every new year we full our hearts with hope especially
when we hear and read many officials' statements in mass media
saying that unlike all previous years the current one will be a
distinctive year full of many achievements."
He goes on all these optimistic words go with the wind with the
passing of days of the New Year, and there is no any kind of change
and if it occurs it will be worse than the existed one.
With more emphasize, he added:"Telling every officials and citizens
that the new year would not come with a hand grasping change. If we
really want to change the situation then firstly we have to be
changed from inside after that may a slight of different could be
observed in this year."
Arab and Islamic Nation Unity
Beside all what have been mentioned before, Murad dreams in 2010
that all Yemenis hearts to be unified to serve the common interest
of Yemen. "Differing in opinions is not point of struggling and
shouldn't lead to any difficulties reaching the security and
stability of the country," he said.
