YEMENI MIGRANTS INVEST ONLY $5 BLN IN YEMEN, $23 BLN ABROAD

SANA'A, Jan. 31 (Saba) - Yemeni migrants are investing only $5 billion of their money in Yemen and about $23 billion abroad, a study showed on Sunday.

The study prepared by the Undersecretary of Social Affairs and
Labour Ministry Shaif Ezi demonstrated that the Yemeni migrants are
estimated to be six million people in over 55 countries.

In the study, which is on "Regulating Yemeni Labour Migration and
the Migrants' Impact on the National Economy", Ezi guesstimated the
capital of the Yemeni migrants and businessmen abroad about $ 33
billion.

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ranked first in terms of Yemeni migrant
number with more than 1.3 million and United Arab Emirates comes
next with about 70,000 migrants, according to the study.

It also said that Qatar hosts 11,000 Yemenis, while about 10,000
Yemenis work in Bahrain and 7,656 in Kuwait.

The study talked about many positive points of the Yemeni migrants,
including feeding the national economy with foreign currency,
assisting in stabilizing the local currency, reducing the inflation
rates, promoting Yemeni goods abroad, activating tourist, transport
and telecommunication.

Based on the study, the competent bodies in the government and the
private sector are weak to create the required communication and to
establish a real partnership with Yemeni migrants.
