S. Korean man shot dead in Philippines

SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean businessman living in the Philippines
was shot and killed Saturday night by two unidentified attackers, the foreign
ministry here said Monday.

The 50-year-old real estate agent, identified only by his surname Kang, was shot
two times in front of his house in Angeles City, about 100 kilometers north of
Manila, a ministry official said.
He was soon rushed to a nearby hospital, but died around 10 p.m., the official
said.
Kang was known to have invested a large sum of money in a major land deal near a
former U.S. naval base and was usually accompanied by bodyguards for fear of his
security, according to the official.
South Korea's government has asked the Philippine authorities to conduct an
on-spot inspection to promptly arrest the gunmen and uncover details including
the reason for the assault, the official said.
