Senior diplomats from S. Korea, China and Japan to hold talks
BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- Senior diplomats from South Korea, China and Japan
were to hold talks in Beijing later Monday to discuss pending regional issues,
including preparations for a third tripartite summit slated for later this year
in South Korea, officials said Monday.
South Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Yong-joon, his Chinese counterpart Hu
Zhengyue and Japanese counterpart Sasae Kenichiro were to discuss ways to
increase cooperation between the three countries and implement a joint statement
adopted at the end of the previous trilateral summit held in Beijing last
October, said the officials.
The diplomats were also expected to discuss issues related to North Korea's
nuclear program and global warming, they noted.
In particular, the three diplomats were expected to hold concrete discussions on
launching an air shuttle service linking key airports in Seoul, Beijing and
Tokyo, they explained.
The three countries launched the senior-level diplomatic dialogue in May 2007 and
have since taken turns hosting it.
