Okada to visit South Korea on Feb. 10-11+
TOKYO, Feb. 2 Kyodo - Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada said Tuesday that he will meet his South Korean counterpart Yu Myung Hwan during a two-day visit to South Korea from Feb. 10 to enhance bilateral ties and discuss issues related to North Korea.
The two foreign ministers may also touch on the issue of history as 2010 marks
a century since Japan's annexation of the Korean Peninsula.
Asked about his view of the annexation, Okada said that ''Japan may not have
been the only country (responsible for) such an act, bearing in mind the world
situation at the time...but there were various dimensions to the process of
annexation.''
''Thinking about such issues, we must not forget the feelings of those who feel
the pain (of annexation),'' he added.
