S. Korean firm, Senegal agree on energy cooperation
SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean power company said Wednesday that it
signed a deal with the Senegalese government to cooperate in the energy sector.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed earlier in the day, state-run
Korea Power Engineering Co. (KOPEC) and the African country will exchange human
resources and energy-related information.
The two sides also agreed to enhance cooperation in energy projects including
thermal and wind power plants.
The Senegalese government also requested KOPEC to participate in a national
project to build a thermal power plant with a capacity of 250 megawatts.
A South Korean consortium led by state-run Korea Electric Power Corp. clinched a
nuclear energy deal in the United Arab Emirates in December 2009, estimated to be
worth some US$20 billion, making South Korea just the sixth nation in the world
to export nuclear power plants.
