S. Korean trade body chief to head int'l capital-market organization

SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Yonhap) -- The head of South Korea's largest financial trade
association will head an international institution newly set up to promote
investor education, the association said Wednesday.

Hwang Kun-ho, CEO of the Korea Financial Investment Association, was named the
first chairman of the Asia Forum for Investor Education (AFIE) at a meeting held
earlier in the day to launch the global organization. His term lasts for two
years.
"AFIE will help bridge local financial firms' inroads into Asian emerging markets
since it is the first international organization associated with capital markets,
set up under a South Korean initiative," Hwang said after being elected to run
the international body.
AFIE is a group of stock exchanges, capital-market regulatory authorities and
financial trade associations of 20 Asia-Pacific nations and was set up to
expedite capital market growth in the region though investor education.
