Ruling party to name new secretary-general

SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Yonhap) -- Choung Byoung-gug, a three-term lawmaker of the Grand
National Party (GNP), will be named the new secretary-general of the ruling party
in a party reshuffle slated for Thursday, a party source said Wednesday.
The chairman of the GNP, Chung Mong-joon, has decided to appoint Choung to
succeed Rep. Chang Kwang-keun as the party's new secretary-general, said the
source, asking anonymity.
Chang offered to resign on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old Choung, who has been elected three times from the Yangpyeong
district southeast of Seoul, served as a key member of President Lee Myung-bak's
election campaign team in 2007.
In the reshuffle, Rep. Chung Mee-kyung will replace Rep. Cho Yoon-sun as the
GNP's new spokesperson, said the source, adding the new appointments will be
announced Thursday. Cho is the party's longest-serving spokesperson.
