S. Korea to invest 1 tln won in software industry
SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will invest 1 trillion won in the nation's
software industry over the next three years as part of efforts to turn itself
into one of the world's software powerhouses, government officials said Thursday.
The investment will be made in the domestic software industry and its related
industries until 2012, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said in a press release.
The plan was unveiled after it was reported to President Lee Myung-bak earlier in
the day.
Efforts will also be made to nurture highly skilled software workers and research
and development, the ministry said.
The ministry also said the country will pursue cooperation with India by
expanding business tie-ups with the giant software country.
The move is aimed at spurring the nation's drive to become one of the world's
software powerhouses, the ministry said. South Korea is known for its advanced
technologies, but most of them are hardware-based.
