S. Korean export insurer opens branch office in Panama

SEOUL, Feb. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's state-run export insurer said Friday that it has opened a branch office in Panama City to help local companies conduct trade and carry out investment in Latin America.

The Panama office aims to help South Korean companies conduct business in such
neighboring countries as Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Venezuela and Columbia,
the Korea Export Insurance Corp. (KEIC) said.
It said the office, officially opened on Wednesday, will focus on conducting
inquiries into credit standings, providing debt collection services and
guaranteeing payment on exports.
Central and South American countries are rich in natural resources, which are
fueling investments and business tie-ups with South Korean companies. They are
also growing consumer markets for South Korean products.
KEIC operates another Latin American office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to handle
export support services in the region. Overall, the insurer has 10 branch offices
worldwide and three one-person liaison operations in Moscow, Dubai and Tokyo.
