GOVT URGED TO DECIDE ON SENORO GAS PROJECT`S CONTINUATION

Jakarta, Feb 5 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission VII has asked the coordinating minister for economic affairs to immediately decide on the continuation of the Senoro gas project in Central Sulawesi.

House Commission VII Chairman Teuku Riefky Harsya said here on Friday the Sonoro gas project would be of great economic benfit to the country.

"We will continue to urge the government to speed up the continuation of the Senoro gas project," Teuku Riefky said.

Meanwhile, House Commission VII Deputy Chairman Achmad Farial said the government should opt to develop the Senoro gas project because it would be of optimal profit to the state.

"I think the gas combination can be turned into natural liquefied natural gas (LNG) while the most possible option at present is its operation to meet domestic need for gas," Achmad Farial said.

He added, if all of the Senoro gas was used to meet domestic needs, the project would be constrained by infrastructure and funding problems.

Riefly was also of the opinion that the LNG combination and domestic need orientation options were the most possible ones at present.

The energy and mineral resources ministry had earlier presented four options to the coordinating minister for economic affairs relating to the Senoro project.

The four options were: one hundred percent of the gas should be allocated to meet domestic need, 100 percent of the gas turned into LNG, LNG and fertilizer plant combination, and LNG and power generation combination.

Meanwhile, state oil company PT Pertamina President Director Karen Agustiawan in a hearing with the House Commission VII on Thursday said the option of LNG combination with local domestic need was the best one.

According to Karen, the most possible gas selling scheme that could be made from its financial and technical sides and bankability met the criteria and was ready to be produced in the first quarter of 2013 with 335 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas for LNG and 70 MMSCFD for domestic need.

"With such a scheme, the government would get an optimal income of US$6.2 billion," Karen said, adding the she was at present looking for new LNG buyers after Kansai Electric, Japan, postponed the head of agreement (HOA) to buy one million tons per year out of a production capacity plan of two million tons per year.***
