INDONESIAN MAID GETS 5 YEARS IN MALAYSIA
Kuala Lumpur, Feb. 6 (ANTARA) - A Shah Alam court has raised the sentence of an Indonesian domestic helper (PRT) Suparmi Lamidi from two to five years in jail Friday for abducting Siti Nurdiana, the child of her employer.
Her employer, Haslinda, is an Indonesian who married a Mianmarese Aung Soe Husin.
Judge Wira Mokhtarudin Baki increased the sentence on Suparmi (50), who was arrested by Malaysian police on November 19, 2009, after the prosecutor filed for an appeal, Malaysian media said Friday.
Suparmi pleaded guilty to have abducted Siti Nurdiana (2 and a half years old), from her home on November 17, 2009, when her two employers were out for work.
It was only two and a half months since Suparmi Lamidi worked with the family, taking care of the child while her parents were out for work every day.
Some day when Haslinda did not find her child and the maid at home, she and her husband reported the loss to the police, and stuck pictures of the child on public buses, public places, and food stalls.
Siti Nurdiana was later found all alone near a foodstall at Batu Tiga railway station in Selangor by a man on Wednesday, on November 18, 2009. The man contacted the police, who later managed to find and arrest Suparmi at a street in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, November 11, 2009.
