BREAST CANCER CASES STILL THE HIGHEST
Jakarta, Feb 5 (ANTARA) - Breast and cervical cancer has the highest incidence in Indonesia, Disease Control and Environmental Health Director General of the Ministry of Health Tjandra Yoga Aditama said.
"Hospital Data and information 2007 showed that breast cancer reached 8,227 cases, and cervical canter 5,786 incidences," he said in Jakarta Thursday.
However, Tjandra said, the breast cancer incidences had been declining, because in 2006 there were 8,327 cases or 19.64 pct of the total number of cancer cases.
However, the case of cervical cancer is on the other way around, it has been increasing in 2006 with only 4,696 cases, or 11.07 pct, while the highest cancer incidences were of men with bronchial cancer and lung cancer cases in 2007 reaching 2,847 cases (5.8 pct).
The prevalence of tumors/cancer in Indonesia, according to the 2007 basic health research reached 4.3 per thousand people.
Breast and cervical cancer early detection pilot projects had been set up in Kebumen regency, Pekalongan, and in Wonosbo, Central Java.
In East Java, he added, such pilot projects had been set up in Gresik, Trenggalek, Malang, Kediri.
Such projects had also been set up in Karawang, West Java, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, Gowa in South Sulawesi and in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
