SEASON OF CATCHING SQUID CLOSED IN YEMEN
SANA'A, Feb.06 (Saba)- Ministry of Fisheries announced on Saturday
closing the season of fishing Squid in the regional waters of Yemen
in the Arab Sea area as from February 7th, 2010.
The ministry stressed the obligation of all offices and institutions
of the ministry, companies, fish associations and traditional
fishermen to abide by this decision, affirming that it would take
the legal procedures against the violations.
The decision referred to the importance of stopping fishing during
the closure period which witnesses the Squid proliferation, so as to
contribute to preserve the Squid and its lifetime.
The ministry urged its offices in the provinces to implement a
comprehensive inventory of the quantities of squid caught by the
fishermen and licensed boats as well as the quantities stored in
refrigerators and laboratories within their competences and to
report the results to the ministry within a week from the decision
date.
The areas of the Arab Sea and the Red Sea are considered among the
richest areas with Squid, while the eastern province of Mahrah
province is one of the largest coastal provinces in the Squid
production.
