South Korean soccer team trounces Hong Kong 5-0 in Tokyo

TOKYO, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea thrashed Hong Kong 5-0 in their opening
match at the East Asian championship Sunday, brightening prospects of the team's
two consecutive triumph at the four-team tournament.
Captain Kim Jung-woo headed home in the 10th minute in Tokyo, followed by goals
from Koo Ja-cheol, Lee Dong-gook, Lee Seung-yeoul and No Byung-jun. The Koreans
led 4-0 at halftime.
Sunday's victory has brightened the prospects of the South Koreans' defense of
their East Asian title. South Korea won the first East Asian championship in 2003
and again in 2008.
Host Japan drew a loud boo from fans when they were held scoreless by China in
the tournament's opening-day match on Saturday.
