PERTAMINA SEEKING US$2.5B TO BUILD POWER PLANTS

Jakarta, Feb 8 (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE)is now seeking US$2 - 2.5 billion to finance the construction of a 1,070 MW geothermal power plant (PLTP), an official said.

PGE President Director Abadi Purnomo said here on Monday that the 1,070 MW PLTP project was part of the government`s second 10,000 MW power crash program.

He said that a number of donor institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the KFW of Germany, the CFD of France and the Japan`s International Cooperation Agency (JICA), had expressed their readiness to finance the projects.

"There is no problem with funding. There are many donors who have expressed readiness to provide funds through the G-to-G mechanism with a soft loan scheme," Purnomo said.

He said that his company also made available funds from its internal sources so that the geothermal projects could be begun soon.

PT PGE is allocating Rp2.5 trillion for the construction of the projects in 2010. This is higher than the Rp1.58 set aside for similar projects in 2009, he said.

In the 10,000 MW power projects, Pertamina will build 10 PLTPs with a total combined capacity of 1,070 MW.
