Saudi Higher Education Minister Addresses World Higher Education Conference in Cuba

Havana, February 09, 2010, SPA -- Saudi Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Anqari has expressed his thanks for inviting the Kingdom to the 7th World Higher Education Conference and selecting Saudi Arabia to represent the Middle East in the Conference which started in Havana on Monday.


Addressing the inaugural session of the Conference, Dr. Al-Anqari stressed that
the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin
Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince and the Second Deputy Premier has given a great
attention to the sector of higher education, commending the great support
provided by the Government to higher education within its efforts of
transformation towards knowledge-based-society by allocating 26% of the
State's budget for the education sector.


He reviewed the Kingdom's achievements in the field of scientific researches
and the establishment of partnerships with outstanding universities around the
world.


The five-day Conference is being held under the title "Universities for a
Better World" with the participation of four ministers representing various
regions of the world including Saudi Arabia for the Middle East; Venezuela for
South America; China for East and Southeast Asia, and Spain for Europe.
