(ATTN: ADDS details)
SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top automaker, said
Wednesday its board decided to name Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun as an executive
director.
The appointment of 39-year-old Chung, the only son of Hyundai Motor Chairman
Chung Mong-koo, to the role of executive director is subject to approval by
shareholders, the company said in a regulatory filing.
If approved, the junior Chung will replace Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Lee
Jeong-dae at the company's board, according to the filing.
Hyundai has four executive directors on its board, including the senior Chung.
Last year, Hyundai posted a record net profit of 2.96 trillion won (US$2.51
billion), more than doubling from 1.45 trillion won in 2008.
Hyundai sold a record 3.11 million vehicles last year, up 11.7 percent from a
year earlier.
Hyundai will hold an annual shareholders' meeting on March 12, the filing said.
