Seoul shares trade 1.25 pct higher in late morning

SEOUL, Feb. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.25 percent higher late
Thursday morning as shipbuilders and automakers gained significant ground on
foreign and institutional buying, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index rose 19.68 points to 1,589.80 as
of 11:20 a.m.
Top shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries surged more than 4 percent on reports
that it won overseas orders, lending support to the key index.
The central bank's decision earlier in the day to freeze its key interest rate
also boosted investor sentiment.
The local currency was trading at 1,156.80 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m.,
up 3.50 won from Wednesday's close.
