Japan inks tax treaty with Kuwait, 1st Mideast country to do so+
TOKYO, Feb. 17 Kyodo - Japan and Kuwait on Wednesday signed a tax treaty to help facilitate economic activity and investment between the two countries, the Finance Ministry said.
Kuwait will be the first Middle Eastern country to have such a treaty with
Japan aimed at avoiding double taxation on companies and preventing tax
evasion, the ministry said.
The treaty is expected to go into effect as early as this year after necessary
domestic procedures are completed.
Among other Middle Eastern countries, Japan is negotiating with the United Arab
Emirates and Saudi Arabia to conclude similar tax treaties.
Japan already has bilateral tax treaties with about 60 economies, according to
the ministry.
