S. Korea's offshore environment market to hit 6 tln won in 2020

SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- The offshore environment market in South Korea is
expected to grow to 6.17 trillion won (US$5.39 billion) in 2020, a 14-fold
increase from current levels, a state-run researcher said Thursday.
The forecast included potential tourism and construction projects in the nation's
coastal areas, according to the Korea Maritime Institute. The market for offshore
environment stood at 440 billion won in 2008, it said.
Potential projects to restore or reconstruct the coastal areas may be worth
around 3 trillion won in 2020, the institute said.
If the government put its focus on tourism projects in the coastal areas, it will
create a market worth 690 billion won in 2020, it said.
Also on the list of potential projects are a technology to reduce greenhouse
gases and other environment-related initiatives, it said.
