Rudd says he`s no fake Queenslander
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has hit back at Tony Abbott's claim he's a fake Queenslander.
Mr Rudd pointed to his passion for the Brisbane Broncos and said he was part of the
crowd at his team's Friday night NRL clash with the Cowboys.
"I really enjoyed the Broncos (on Friday) night," Mr Rudd said of the match, which
the Broncos won 30 to 24.
"It was good to be out there ... As the patron of the Broncos, I thought it was a
fantastic game."
As part of the opposition's election strategy, Mr Abbott has taken aim at Mr Rudd,
saying he was "more Canberra than Nambour", a reference to the coastal Queensland
town where Mr Rudd spent much of his youth.
"Kevin Rudd is not a fair dinkum Queenslander," Mr Abbott told The Courier-Mail on
Saturday.
But Mr Rudd said Mr Abbott had turned his back on Queensland when he was the Howard
government's health minister.
"I've seen those remarks this morning," he told reporters.
"Can I say, and I'd say this to Mr Abbott, the one thing Queenslanders are concerned
about is the $200 million he ripped out of Queensland's public hospitals when he was
the health minister."
