Japan crown prince heads home after visit to Africa
NAIROBI, March 13 Kyodo -
Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito left Nairobi on Saturday to return home via
Rome, finishing his weeklong official visit to Ghana and Kenya.
In Kenya where the crown prince visited from Wednesday, he met with people
including Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Nobel Prize laureate Wangari
Maathai, and visited a wildlife sanctuary and a paddy field where Japan has
helped renovate irrigation facilities.
He also visited Nairobi National Museum to see the fossil remains of a human
ancestor -- a boy from 1.6 million years ago -- discovered in 1984 in the
country.
Before visiting Kenya, the prince stayed in Ghana from Sunday to Wednesday,
during which time he met with President John Atta Mills and visited a
laboratory used by Hideyo Noguchi, a Japanese bacteriologist who died in Ghana
in 1928 of yellow fever while conducting research into the disease.
The prince is scheduled to return home Monday.
