Protests should be within law: Iranian reformist
TEHRAN, March 14 (MNA) – Es’haq Jahangiri, a co-founder and senior member of the reformist Servants of Construction Party, says protests should be expressed within a legal framework.
“Protest should be done within the framework of law; we can settle disputes (over the presidential elections) by choosing legal mechanisms,” he told the Mehr News Agency.
“It was not the last election. Next year we will have another election, (and) I hope that the move that the Expediency Council has started (to revise the mechanisms for holding elections) would yield good results,” the former industry minister explained.
Asked on the current activities of the Servants of Construction Party, he said in the current political situation, most of the parties have halted their activities and the Servants of Construction Party is not an exception.
“The post-election incidents have raised the price of political activities in the country; the parties that have been formed within the framework of the system did not expect to pay high prices for conducting political campaigns in the country,” he explained.
On the future of reformist parties, he noted reformists can not remain indifferent to the fate of the system and people.
Although the reformists feel they have been wronged, they will continue their activities, he added.
He went on to say that reformists should conduct a self-assessment and if they have made any mistake they should try to put it right.
He also stated that reformists should have interaction with the system to find a way out of the current political stalemate facing the country.
“Of course, it requires the patience of the country’s ruling system. They (officials) should create a situation in which parties and figures loyal to the Islamic Republic’s system feel they can appear on the country’s political arena again and play their roles.”
