Iranian MP warns about hasty ratification of annual budget
TEHRAN, March 14 (MNA) – Majlis Research Center director Ahmad Tavakoli has cautioned against a hasty ratification of the next year’s budget.
A rush to ratify the annual budget should not prevent the advocates and opponents from expressing their views, the MP stated on Saturday.
The Persian calendar year starts March 21.
In response to Tavakoli’s comments, Parliament speaker Ali Larijani said, “We will listen to as many advocates and opponents’ views as we can.”
Tavakoli is a vocal critic of the current administration’s economic policies, and has predicted that the economic growth for the next year will be negative or close to zero.
Previously, he had voiced his opposition to the “hasty implementation” of the subsidy reform plan, arguing its recessionary and inflationary consequences will harm the national economy.
The administration has not yet officially released the economic growth rate for the previous and current year.
