Iran crowned Asian Alysh champ

TEHRAN, March 14 (MNA) -- Iran claimed the title of the third edition of the Asian Alysh Championship in Bishkek, Kyrgystan, on Friday.

Iran won the championship of the two-day tournament scoring 56 points among 12 participating teams.

In the women’s division, Iran’s Neda Khani won the gold medal and Bahareh Fayyazi and Fatemeh Mohammadi claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.

Yahya Ashouri and Rasoul Safari won gold and bronze medals in the men’s division.

Kyrgystan came second in the event.

Alysh, also known as belt wrestling, is an upright wrestling style where competitors wear trousers, jackets and belts, and must hold on to their opponents' belts at all times with the objective of throwing their opponents onto the mat.
