Iran-U.S. trade doubles in Jan.

TEHRAN, March 14 (MNA) – Trade between Iran and the U.S. almost doubled in January 2010 compared to December 2009.

ISNA news agency cited the latest U.S. Census Bureau report as stating that trade between the two countries hit $37.3 million in January.

Of the figure mentioned, U.S. exported $31 million worth of goods to Iran and $6.3 million were goods exported to the U.S. from Iran.

In December 2009, the U.S. exports to Iran were $11.3 million and Iran exported $7.5 million worth of goods to the U.S.

The report further said that in 2009 the total trade between the two countries reached $384.5 million which was about half the figure of 2008, standing at about $787.3.

The report shows that trade between the two countries had decreased in 2009, possibly due to the global economic meltdown, while it now signals improvement with the increase in trade.
