Land artists house opens on Persian Gulf island

TEHRAN, March 14 (MNA) -- Persian Gulf Land Artists House has recently been inaugurated on Hormoz Island in southern Iran where it is hosting a permanent exhibition of environmental art.

The house is affiliated to Pardis, a center Iranian land artist Ahmad Nadalian established in Polur in northern Iran several years ago for the creation and exhibition of art in nature.

Tourists visiting the island these days and groups that pour into the island during Noruz vacation will be able to visit the artwork on display.

The exhibit displays a collection of photos taken of land art creations done on Hormoz Island over the past few years. Included are photos related to the land art project conducted in memory of the martyrs of Iran Air Flight 655 (IR655), Simorgh sand arts created using the island’s red soil, and huge calligraphy works on the sands of the Persian Gulf, as well as images left on the beach by cylindrically-shaped seals.

Glass paintings with colored sands of the island created by local women are also on sale trying to help improve the financial situation of their families.

According to Nadalian, the house to display the artworks is itself created by colorful sands on the island. “We are trying to discourage the use of these types of colorful sands. We must help conserve this medium of land art and not permit the abuse of the colorful sands of the region.”
