Department store Takashimaya to close New York outlet in June+

TOKYO, March 25 Kyodo -
Japanese department store operator Takashimaya Co. said Thursday it will end
operations at its outlet in New York in June.
Takashimaya will also begin negotiations soon to sell the building property
housing the New York outlet, owned by the Takashimaya group, it said.
Takashimaya is operating three overseas outlets, each in New York, Singapore
and Taiwan, and plans to open in 2012 a department store in Shanghai, China,
which has a 40,000-square-meter floor space.
With the closure of the New York outlet, Takashimaya plans to concentrate
management resources on Asia.
The New York outlet, which opened in 1993, has a floor space of about 1,700
square meters. It expects to post sales of about 1.4 billion yen in fiscal 2009
ended last month but has been posting operating losses in recent years.
