India would continue with its work in Afghanistan: Krishna
Bangalore, Mar 29 (PTI) Rubbishing Pakistan's claim
that it has more stake in Afghanistan than India as mere
"perception", Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna
Monday said the country would continue to stick to its basic
commitment to develop the infrastructure of the war-torn
nation.
"It's Pakistan's perception," Krishna said when asked
to comment on Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi's
remarks that his country has more stake in Afghanistan than
India, which is involved in developing infrastructure there.
"As far as India is concerned, we have civilizational
links, historical trade links with Afghanistan and we have
taken up constructive engagement with them," he told PTI here.
"We are trying to improve their infrastructure, and
that's our basic commitment to Afghanistan. We will continue
to do that," he said.
On Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley
confessing to involvement of four Pakistani Army Officers in
26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Krishna said this doesn't
surprise India.
"We are awaiting some kind of an official word from
the US...from the FBI who are interrogating Headley. So, this
(Headley's confession) does not surprise us," he said.
Asked to comment on Pakistan Army Chief and ISI head
being part of the Pakistani delegation during the US-Pak
strategic dialogue, Krishna said India was monitoring these
developments.
Even earlier they were part of NATO and "other
regional alliances with USA in the lead.... So, that's their
concern. But we (India) are monitoring all these
developments," he said. (MORE) PTI
