Iran to host intl. calligraphy biennial in May
TEHRAN, Apr. 7 (MNA) -- Qazvin province is to host the first international biennial of calligraphy opening on May 12.
The selected artwork will go on display at the new cultural center established at the Sad-us-Saltaneh House in the city’s Vazir Bazaar, said secretary of the biennial Mohammad-Hossein Shafieiha.
A group of prominent artists, calligraphers, and officials are expected to attend the opening ceremony, Shafieiha said, adding that the works will be displayed for 20 days.
“Several sessions and workshops are also arranged on the side section of the event,” he added.
“We intend to hold the first biennial with the participation of outstanding calligraphers from other countries, with the aim of promoting the art of calligraphy,” he remarked.
The names of masters from Turkey and the United Arab Emirates are seen among the participants.
The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance will be purchasing some of the artwork if a special budget can be allocated.
