CENTER FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES HOSTS MEETING ON NATO`s NEW STRATEGIC CONCEPT

Baku, April 9 (AzerTAc). A meeting on Romania`s view of NATO`s New Strategic Concept has been held today in the Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijan President.
Romanian ambassador, head of the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Baku Nicholae Ureke made a presentation in the event on the subject.
The diplomat spoke of his country`s contribution to designing NATO`s new strategic concept, NATO-Azerbaijan relationship and joint programs.
Ureke said the scope of the Alliance`s activity had increased to cover not only security, but also development of democracy.
On Azerbaijan-NATO relationship, the diplomat said the country was an important partner of the Alliance, due to its geostrategic position, active participation in fight against terrorism and the role it plays to ensure Europe`s energy security.
He said as a head of the NATO contact point embassy, he would spare no efforts to contribute to boosting the Azerbaijan-NATO ties.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat said NATO considers all conflicts a threat to the world community. He stressed the necessity of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by peaceful way.
Ureke also touched upon relations between Azerbaijan and Romania, describing them as “excellent”.
The event was attended by officials of the Foreign Ministry, MPs, ambassadors and experts.
