Iran's administration presents inflation forecast to parliement
TEHRAN, April 11 (MNA) – MP Gholamreza Mesbahi-Moqaddam has announced that administration’s officials have presented their prediction of the inflation rate if the subsidy reform plan is implemented based on the administration’s proposed plan.
Mesbahi-Moqaddam, a member of the administration-Majlis (government-parliament) joint committee which has been established to restudy the subsidy reform plan, said administration officials also presented their forecast of fuel price rises.
Administration’s officials presented their verbal predictions in the most recent session of the committee, but they asked the members not to make the statistics public until the administration announces the new prices of fuel in order to prevent public worries about the inflation, he told the Mehr New Agency.
Mesbahi-Moqaddam also said that the Majlis is still waiting to hear the administration’s logical reasons behind its refusal to implement the subsidy reform plan based on the parliamentary ratification.
The negotiations should continue because the talks so far have not yielded any results, he added.
The administration says it will not be able to compensate low-income families for the inflationary effects of the plan unless the parliament doubles the revenues from the subsidy cut savings from $20 billion to $40 billion.
On the other hand, most of the MPs believe that the approved plan in the Majlis will minimize the inflationary pressures on the people.
After the conflict over the subsidy reform plan heated up, the administration-Majlis joint committee was set up to find a way to end the deadlock.
The committee called on the administration to announce its forecasts for the inflation rate, economic growth, and the price of fuels if the administration’s proposed plan is completely approved.
