Plans for lowering Tehran’s population

TEHRAN, April 11 (MNA) – Science Minister Kamran Daneshjou has said that his ministry has devised plans for decreasing Tehran’s population.
Increasing the salary of the instructors in universities who are not in Tehran can be effective in persuading them to teach in underprivileged cities, Daneshjou said in a meeting with a group of university professors in Urmia, West Azerbaijan Province.
The science minister added that the university instructors are usually reluctant to teach in minor cities, thus, some incentives should be offered to prepare the ground for their presence in these universities.
Daneshjou pointed out that due to the high probability of an earthquake in Tehran, the Science Ministry is devising plans for lowering the city’s population density.
The details of these plans will be announced in the near future, he said.
Deputy Health Minister Hassan Emami-Razavi previously said that the current level of readiness for dealing with a probable earthquake in Tehran is from 10 to 20 percent.
He emphasized that one of the best ways of decreasing the number of casualties is deceasing the population of Tehran.
Razavi added that Tehran’s hospitals do not have the capacity to deal with large casualties in the face of an earthquake.
