TOKYO, April 12 Kyodo -
Thai Prime Minister Prime Abhisit Vejjajiva expressed condolences through
diplomatic channels Sunday to Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama over the death of a
Japanese TV cameraman during Saturday's clashes in Bangkok between
antigovernment protesters and security forces, Japanese officials said.
Hatoyama asked Abhisit in a letter to conduct a full investigation into the
shooting death of Hiroyuki Muramoto, a television cameraman for Reuters news
agency, and provide the results as soon as possible, they said.
Abhisit said that representing the Thai government and people, he expresses his
condolences and pledged to implement a thorough probe into the cause of his
death, the officials said.
In the letter, Hatoyama said he is concerned about the clashes and that he
hopes Thailand will see political stability restored as soon as possible.
Earlier in the day, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Thai Foreign Minister
Kasit Piromya, in a message addressed to his Japanese counterpart Katsuya
Okada, has expressed condolences to the bereaved family of Muramoto.
