Prosecutor elaborates on Iran's high-profile cases
TEHRAN, April 17 (MNA) -- Tehran Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi has given a status report on a number of high-profile court cases.
The judiciary official elaborated on several cases, such as the death of the Kahrizak detention center’s physician, the hearings of the post-election detainees, the assassination of particle physicist Masoud Ali-Mohammadi, and the proceedings against Abdolmalek Rigi.
On the cases of the post-election and Ashura day detainees, he said most of the investigations have been completed and 500 indictments have been issued so far.
He also stated that rulings would be made in the near future.
Commenting on the suspicious death of the Kahrizak detention center’s physician, Jafari-Dolatabadi said Ramin Pourandarjani’s parents have asked for permission to hire a lawyer and the court has acquiesced to their request, and the legal proceedings are underway.
On the case of Abdolmalek Rigi, the ringleader of the Jundullah terrorist group, he said the case has been referred to a court in Tehran and the investigation is being completed.
On the assassination of Iranian scientist Masoud Ali-Mohammadi, who was killed when a bomb attached to a motorbike was detonated in front of his home, he only said that a stolen motorcycle was used in the incident.
